IN THE COMMUNITY

Lioness Clubs continue to contribute to the service functions of their Lions Clubs whilst embarking on our own individual projects and in doing so we are a vital part of the backbone of the Association of Lions Clubs International.

Some of our projects include the Lions Children of Courage; assisting a local Aged Care facility and a Women’s Refuge. We have funded children to attend special camps and to receive mobility aids. Our Annual High Teas and Cent Auction have a strong following from other Lioness Clubs and the community.

We run a regular raffle and the occasional Bunning and Officeworks BBQ’s. All funds raised from the public are returned to the public, something we are very proud of.

Redcliffe Visually Impaired Persons Group (VIP’s):
We are very proud to be the patron’s for this wonderful group of people. We have been involved for many years with the VIP’s assisting with the purchase of equipment, raffle prizes and providing a morning tea to celebrate their clubs birthday. One of their favourite things is to join us for the Brekkies on the Beach and we provide transport for those who require it.

Lions Children of Courage:
We have been hosting an awards ceremony annually since 2002. This is an awards program where we recognise children with special needs, have faced serious illness, shown acts of bravery or displayed inspiring sporting achievemnets despite their challenges.

The Lions Children of Courage Awards are NOT a competition. Every recipient of an award is a “winner” in his or her own right as the recognition of these young people’s achievements. We receive great support from the community to ensure success on the day.

Breakfasts on the Beach AKA Brekkies on the Beach:
We host about four (4) a year, generally at Crockatt Park in Woody Point. We invite our VIP’s along as well as other Lions and Lioness Clubs where they are served a BBQ breakfast followed by dessert and tea, coffee or juice. This is a wonderful ‘social’ occasion for all of us.

Christmas Projects:
Our club has been involved with the ‘Christmas Child Shoe Box’ appeal where a shoe box is packed with toys, personal items, stationery and clothing and then sent overseas to deserving children in ravaged areas or third world countries. This is a lovely and easy project to participate in.

We have been helping Santa with his ‘Santa Letters’ with a mailbox at our local shopping centre. We do not charge for the letters and postage is paid for by us.

We provide ‘Christmas gifts for the children’ and their mothers from a local women’s refuge. We have a party and the children are entertained while they wait for the arrival of Santa.

Along with our Lions we visit a local Special School and a Day Respite Centre and Santa gives everyone a small bag of ‘goodies’. The children and clients have a wonderful time and sing carols as well as having their photos taken with Santa.

Together with our Lions we organise a ‘Bus Trip’ for the VIP’s though this generally takes place in the early part of the year. The trip generally includes a morning tea somewhere nice and lunch in a park with a visit to an attraction along the way.

“Christmas Wrapping’ is on the agenda for the Sunday’s in December, a lovely way to spend the day. We do this at our local shopping centre in place of another group who is not available to be ‘wrappers’ on Sundays. Shoppers make a donation to us for having their gifts wrapped.
Other Activities:

Ladies in Lionism Luncheon:
The Lioness Clubs have an annual luncheon to celebrate the commitment and contribution of the ladies who are Lions, Lionesses, Leos and Lions Ladies.

Each year a different club hosts the event, organising the venue, the entertainment, meals and guest speaker. We have hosted this luncheon several times and enjoyed ourselves each time. It is normally held in the early part of the year and is a great social event.
