Australia Day
Our club celebrated Australia Day at our meeting last night with a slight twist. We included a surprise birthday party for our President, Lioness Fiona, who was celebrating her 50th birthday. President Fiona is a 'Trekkie' so the theme for the evening was Australia Day meets Captain Kirk. We had a traditional Aussie meal of salads and sausages followed with a Pavlova Birthday cake. Our decorations included both Aussie and Trekkie table accessories. It was a great night. Below are photos of our ladies 'having FUN' |
Australian Lions Hearing Dogs
An update from one of our recipients: Wanda my hearing dog is now 12 years old, she has been with me for more than 10 years. Living in a unit there is a smoke alarm siren and evacuation loudspeaker outside my unit in the foyer area . At night when I have no Cochlear's on I have no idea when these are operating , hence a great safety issue . One night I was woken by Wanda on my chest awaking me , with great urgency, upon checking I opened my entry door to the commotion of siren and loud speakers for evacuation. Wanda knew this required action and knew to wake me in whatever way she could and there was no stopping her until she had. We love these stories of our dogs potentially saving lives! |
